Those (usually called a katydid around here) are actually really good at holding onto things. When I was helping opponaut KusabiSensei weld up the bed of his truck, one of these had settled on his truck before we went for parts and held on through a trip to Tractor Supply, two auto parts stores, and all the way back. It was a big one, 2” or so.

A katydid...........right! I had forgotten. I just call them leaf bugs. I wanted to hold it but decided to leave it alone.

And they hurt like crap if they decide to dig their little grabbers into your arm. Oh, and they bite.

Psh. Have a Giant Weta.

(It’s a completely adorable insect, only one is that big, it’s harmless and awesome despite its look)

All true. They’re almost the semi-feral cats of the insect world.

Story time: One of the techs at work was telling me about the time a mantis found it’s way into a spider web at the shop. The spider and mantis locked eyes for a minute sizing each other up. The spider decided to make the first move and went after the mantis. The mantis then proceeded to remove all 8 of the spider’s legs and then ate him. What a brutal way to go.

That’s fucking gnarly. Last time I saw one was out on a run for cross country back in HS. It was missing an arm and barely moving. We didn’t issue the koo DE gra because we thought it might have just won an epic battle.

He actually told me that story because I found one while getting rid of pallets at work that day. This was about a month ago.

In these parts, we call that a katydid . So I’m going with $kaytydid. I photographed this guy on my driveway last fall.

I like $katydid! I had forgotten they were called katydids because I’ve always called them leaf bugs. They are so unique.
